Protocol
Smart Contract Tooling Engineer
Build the Hardhat-centered toolchain auditors use on every engagement — reproducible forks, analysis hooks, and client repo onboarding.
Remote
Remote-first across timezones. Pair closely with Solidity engineers; async-first with scheduled deep-dive sessions for release and audit cycles.
Compensation
Competitive cash + meaningful founding equity
About the role
You own the Hardhat environments Orion auditors run against client codebases: plugins, fork networks, static analysis integration, and CI patterns that make reviews fast and repeatable. Your users are auditors, not a product engineering org shipping custody software.
Responsibilities
- Own Hardhat workspaces, networks, plugins, and reproducible local / CI environments
- Build TypeScript tooling for deployments, upgrades, verification, and artifact publishing
- Stand up mainnet-fork and scenario tests that catch integration bugs before audits do
- Integrate gas reporting, coverage, static analysis, and artifact provenance into every PR
- Partner with Smart Contract engineers so developer experience matches institutional rigor
Requirements
- Deep Hardhat experience in production Solidity monorepos (plugins, custom tasks, networks)
- Strong TypeScript skills for scripting deployments, tests, and CI automation
- Solid EVM mental model — you understand what your tooling is actually exercising
- Experience designing CI that is both fast and trustworthy for contract changes
- Obsession with reproducibility, clear docs, and ergonomics seniors will actually use
Nice to have
- Authoring or maintaining Hardhat plugins
- Familiarity with Foundry interop, dual-toolchain setups, or Tenderly / fork tooling
- Experience with upgradeable proxies, CREATE2 factories, or multi-chain deploy matrices
- Background supporting audit firms or internal security reviews with clean artifacts
Benefits
- Meaningful founding equity
- Flexible PTO and remote-first culture
- Budget for tooling, cloud forks, and developer conferences
- Home-office stipend and hardware signing kit
- Health coverage as we formalize benefits
- Direct impact on how the entire protocol team ships
